Sausage Gravy
Ingredients
1 Stick butter ¾ pound sausage Flour 1 teaspoon black ground pepper 1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning 1 quart milk
Directions
- Fry sausauge into small pieces. Brown well.
- Melt butter in a separate sauce pan.
- Add black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, Cajun seasoning, and stir.
- Add flour by tablespoonfuls until the mixture is thick. Continue to cook for 2–3 minutes. This ensures the gravy does not have a flour taste.
- Whisk in the milk. Continue to cook and whisk until the gravy is smooth, thick, and hot.
- Add sausage and stir.
- Serve over open-face homemade biscuits.
